CHEROKEE COUNTY – Strong thunderstorms passing through Cherokee County Thursday are expected to bring not only heavy rainfall, but possibly hail and wind, according to National Weather Service reports.
According to the site, “periods of moderate to heavy rainfall will once again be possible today and tonight, which may result is some localized flash flooding. A flash flood watch has been issued for these areas, as soils are already rather saturated from previous rainfall. A few of these storms may be strong to severe as well. Damaging winds and hail would be the primary threats with this activity.”
However, it noted, dry conditions will settle in by Wednesday afternoon, remaining so through the weekend, although by Sunday night, shower and thunderstorm chances return.
A flood warning has been issued along the Neches River near Neches for Wednesday morning through Saturday night, with minor flooding forecast.
Officials remind residents to not drive cars through flooded areas, and to use caution when walking near riverbanks.
