Cold weather forces changes for sporting events in Cherokee County

Cold weather conditions this week have prompted schools in Cherokee County to amend schedules for some planned events.
ALTO ISD – The Yellowjacket Relays track meet scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 20, has been cancelled as has a trip to Joaquin, which has canceled a baseball tournament. All softball games scheduled for Thursday, February 20th have been cancelled. 
Meanwhile, Yellowjacket Baseball has picked up two games in Central on Friday, Feb. 21, with a 4:15 p.m. match against Shepherd and 6:00 p.m. game against Centerville, and the Lady Jackets will play on Saturday. The girls team plays at 8 a.m. against Winnsboro, at 9:20 a.m. against Sabine and at 1:20 p.m. against New Diana. 
The boys basketball area championship game against Gary is still on for 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, at Nacogdoches High School. 
WELLS ISD – The area basketball playoff game between Wells and Zephyr at Grosbeak High School remains on schedule for 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, officials said. 
BULLARD ISD – An area playoff match between Bullard and Huffman Hargrave remains at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, at Lufkin High School Friday, according to the district.
According to National Weather Service officials in Shreveport, Cherokee County remains under a Cold Weather Advisory from 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, to 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21, with temps as low as 3 degrees due to "very cold windchills."
