Daisy Perkins Masch
We are saddened to share Daisy Perkins Masch died peacefully at home Tuesday, October 15 in Katy, Texas at the age of 94. Daisy was born March 13, 1930 to parents Berta (Dotson) and Onnimus Perkins in Cherokee County in East Texas. A depression baby through and through and one of 11 children on the family farm. She learned the value of hard work, sharing resources with others and importance of a Christian foundation.
She graduated Rusk High School and attended Abilene Christian College studying Education. Making the decision to enroll at North Texas State University she moved to Denton Texas and obtained a Masters Degree in Elementary Education. This detour lead to her meeting the love of her life Johnny Masch. They were married April 16, 1954. A 70- year union that produced two children and many happy adventures.
During a time when most moms were expected to stay home she was both a Professional teacher and a loving mom. Daisy taught elementary school for 34 years, a big supporter of public schools. She worked for New Summerfield, Sanger, Carroll and majority of her career at Denton ISD. Devoted to her students she mentored many over the years even after leaving the physical classroom.
After retiring from teaching in 1987 she enjoyed spending time at her farm in Ponta, Texas, picking blackberries, gardening, canning, sewing, volunteering for the clothing room and food pantry at Singing Oaks Church of Christ, attending Retired Teacher activities and traveling to see her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
During The Pandemic she moved to Katy Texas to be closer to family and discovered new interests, friends and a church family at Cinco Ranch Church of Christ. Even in her 90’s she loved life and never met a stranger. She will be missed every day.
Daisy is survived by her husband John Masch, daughters Melanie Collins (Marten) Ontario Canada, and Janna Hirt (Mace) Katy, Texas. Grandchildren: Collin (Bronwyn) Alberta, Canada, Madison (Brandon) Katy TX, Mallory (John) Katy TX, Daniel, Ireland and 7 Great Grandchildren: Daisy, Darby, Danica, John, Jacob, Maeve and Rowan.
