Killough Monument Memorial Service

In memorium The Cherokee County Historical Commission hosted a memorial ceremony on Monday, Nov. 6, 2023, to commemorate the 185th anniversary of the Killough Massacre. Dr. Deborah Burkett described how events unfolded, and of the women who escaped. After days of walking at night, and hiding during the day, the group arrived at Lacy’s Fort on El Camino Real. Shelly Cleaver reported the names of those who lost their lives that day. Cherokee County Texas Volunteers presented a rifle volley for the somber occasion. Courtesy photo
