Rusk’s Lady Eagles move to the next level of playoffs following their 9-4 defeat of the Jasper Lady Cardinals in a one-game, winner-take-all series played April 26 in Jasper for a Class 4A-II, Region III bi-district encounter title. Rusk will play against the winner of a Shephard-Houston Wheatley match for the area title.

Alto’s Lady Jackets cinched another win for their current streak, earning a bi-district title as well, following an April 26 win over the Grapeland Sandiettes during a best-of-3 series. Next up is the Area, best-of-3 series against Woden. Game 1 against the Lady Eagles is scheduled to begin 6 p.m. Thursday, May 1, with Game 2 slated for 1 p.m. Saturday, May 3; a third game – if needed – would follow 30 minutes after Game 2 concludes. All games will be played at Pollak Central High School.

Lady Tigers softball team recently cinched the Class 3A-II, Region II bi-district championship against Edgewood, have advanced to area playoffs, going against the DeKalb Bears softball squad in a best-of-3 series played at Longview ISD. Game 1 begins 6 p.m. Thursday, May 1, with Game 2 slated for 6 p.m. Friday, May 2. If needed, Game 3 begins at noon Saturday, May 3.

Troup Tigers baseball, in the bi-district round of UIL playoffs, will go up against the Grand Saline Indians in a best-of-3 baseball series played in Athens. Game 1 starts at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 1, with Game 2 – on Friday, May 2 – also starting at 7 p.m. Game 3 – if needed – begins 1 p.m. Saturday, May 3.

Rusk Eagles baseball players celebrated their last home game April 24, recognizing senior players and ending up in a fourth-place tie with the Center Roughriders in district standings. A follow-up match is being arranged this week against Center to see which team represents District 17-4A in playoff standings. Game details are pending.

 

Alto Yellowjackets Baseball is headed into Round 1 of the playoffs, taking on Lovelady Lions in a double header at Nacogdoches High School beginning 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 30. Game 3 – if needed – will be played in Nacogdoches, 1 p.m. Saturday, May 3.
