Cherokee County Veterans: Where are they buried?

by Penny Hawkins penny@thecherokeean.com

There are several projects spotlighting veterans and where they are buried in Cherokee County. Wreaths Across America is a national effort to make sure veterans across the county are remembered. On a local scale in Rusk, a group of volunteers have been working to preserve the cemeteries of Cedar Hill and Memorial and they have a current project to put flags on the graves of veterans.

But there is no all-encompassing list of where veterans in our county are buried. Gordon Bennet, has agreed to work on compiling a list for all of Cherokee County.

If you have a relative or friend who is buried in one of our cemeteries – or if you are a member of a cemetery association – please mail this information:

Last Name, First Name, Middle, Date of Birth, Date of Death

Military service: Highest rank and rating. Beginning date (or year) of service, ending date (or year) of service

Cemetery where buried.

Location in cemetery (if known).
