Mrs. Fairbanks passed from this life on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2023, at a local nursing home. She was born January 3, 1940, in Alto to the late Bill and Omie Hazel (Bennett) Jones. Hazel has lived in Henderson for over 40 years where she was well known as the owner and operator of Hazel’s Country Cooking. She was a natural born “fixer” and just loved people. Hazel would give her last dime to anyone in need; there was no one she wouldn’t help. She also enjoyed crochet and sewing and made several quilts. Mrs. Fairbanks had been attending Bar None Cowboy Church for the last couple of years.
In addition to her parents Mr. and Mrs. Jones, she was preceded in death by her sister Mildred Martin, and son-in-law Bill Shafer.
Survivors include her daughters, Sandy Pate and husband David of New Summerfield, and Shelia Shafer of Henderson; brother, Carlton Jones and wife Edie of Alto; sister, Norma Jones of Alto; grandchildren, Alishia Bammel and husband Matt, Josh Lindsey and wife Jessica, Justin Lindsey and wife Whitney, and Dalton Pate and wife Autumn; great-grandchildren, Kenny Lee, Kaedynce, Aezlyn, Morgan, Braedon, Addison, Ava, John Luke, Gracie, Kara, Kodi Beth, Trace, Troy, and Tanner; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family, and many friends and customers.
