Tommy Ferrell Cummings
Tommy Ferrell Cummings, a resident of Huntington, TX for 30 years passed away at the age of 80 on Nov 29, 2022. His battle with serious medical issues showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile. After several years of declining health, Tommy died peacefully at Friendship Haven.
Tommy was born in Alto, Texas, to father George Willis Cummings and mother Iva Mae Cummings of Alto, Texas. Tommy was next to the youngest of five children. He helped his family on his family’s small farm and was quarterback for football in high school. He met the love of his life, Patty Hewitt after one of those football games at a party. They married in 1961 right after high school graduation and had four children and lost one child, Thomas Wayne Cummings. They were married for 19 years and divorced in 1980. Tommy worked for ExxonMobil oil for 20 years and then retired. He was of the Baptist faith and a Mason.
He loved to hunt and fish and spend time with friends and family.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother Charles Cummings of Katy, Texas and his sister Sue Carol Havard of Huntington, TX.
He is survived by his ex-wife Patty Hewitt; children, Carolyn Van Kirk, Jimmy Cummings, and Patricia Williams; sisters, Jeaneanne Harris and Lodean Sisson; grandchildren, Jeremy Cummings, Amanda Wendell, Robert Van Kirk, Britney Olvera, and Kevin Van Kirk; great-grandchildren, Teagan Olvera, Kimber Olvera, Brooks Wendell, and Aniston Wendell.
Tommy was very loved and will be remembered for his laughter and storytelling sitting around the campfire on the bank of the river.
Tommy did not want a ceremony. He only wanted to be placed beside Thomas Wayne at Old Palestine Cemetery. May he rest in peace.
