Remembering 9/11

The Cherokeean Herald will publish a special tribute in memory of 9/11, honoring the heroes and victims of coordinated terrorist attacks by al-Quaeda against the U.S. on Sept. 11, 2001, in New York City, Washington DC and near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. 

These attacks resulted in thousands of fatalities, marking the deadliest act of terrorism on US soil.

Locally, this 25th anniversary will be marked Friday, Sept. 11, with an 8:40 a.m. memorial on the lawn of the Cherokee County Courthouse in downtown Rusk, near the fallen officer monument. Several guest speakers will address the gathering, including recollections shared by a local woman who volunteered to serve at Ground zero as part of her church’s disaster relief unit.
