Mavis (Washburn) Wallace

Mavis (Washburn) Wallace was born on August 31, 1932, and she passed away at a Rusk nursing home after a brief illness on May 11, 2026. She was 93.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 14th from 4-6 pm at Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home in Rusk. Graveside service will be Friday, May 15th at 10 am at Meador Cemetery in Jacksonville with Chaplin Jeff Summers and Tony Dennis officiating.
Mavis was a native of Jacksonville and a 1949 graduate of Jacksonville High School. 
Survivors include: daughter Sandra Kay Higgins and husband, Glenn of Cushing; son Don Wallace and wife, Dana of Sulphur Springs; brother Marcus Cecil “Junior” Washburn and wife, Nancy of Jacksonville. Also, by several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was proceeded in death by her husband, Edd “Junior” Wallace, her parents Marcus Cecil and Mary Elizabeth Washburn, and several siblings. 
Pallbearers will be family members.
Mavis was involved in several Rusk organizations. She was a former member of the Cherokee County Historical Commission.
