Lawana Baker Carman
A graveside service for Lawana Baker Carman, age 86, of Rusk, is scheduled for 12 noon, Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Echols Cemetery on Jennings Mountain, in Brownsboro with Bro. Ken Jones officiating. Services are under the direction of Autry Funeral Home.
Lawana Baker Carman was born on March 14, 1940, to parents, Archie and Jewell (Johnston) Legett, and went to be with the Lord on May 2, 2026.
Lawana was a faithful member of Central Baptist Church in Jacksonville and always made it to services until she was no longer able. She was known for her deep love of music, which expressed itself through her skill on the piano forte. Through this gift, she taught many students throughout her life and played for countless churches. Lawana was also an avid craftsman and master of many things. She participated in quilting, pottery, painting, crocheting, and whatever else she set her mind upon. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Lawana was preceded in death by her parents, Archie and Jewell Legett; son, Lane Baker; and sisters, Dolores Lanigan, and Nancy Keasler.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Thomas Carman; children, Keith Baker, and wife, Susan, Cheryl Allen, and husband, Wesley, Timothy Carman, Tamara Nixon, and husband, Paul, Tiffany Calhoun and fiancé Bobby Claxton; and daughter-in-law, Robin Baker. She is also survived by numerous loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
