Tennie (Virginia) Sessions Tennie (Virginia) Sessions

In Loving Memory of My Aunt, Tennie (Virginia) Sessions, born in Alto, Texas, January 22, 1937, and met her Lord and Savior, Jesus, April 13, 2026. Tennie was one of 9 brothers and sisters and the 8th child born. Tennie was a cancer survivor and has lived a long, wonderful and single life till the age of 89.
She loved her independence and enjoyed her traveling. Monday, April 13 around 6 p.m., my Aunt Tennie entered Heaven to meet my deaf dad, Travis; her mother Ida and father, Derious (Rhide); and her other brothers Rudolph and Joe; and sisters Faye, Mary, Shirley and Thelma.
She is survived by her youngest brother, Billy and wife Judy; sister-in-law, Gertie; and many nephews and nieces; great nephews and nieces; and great great nephews and nieces.
Tennie was born deaf from an unknown illness. She attended the Texas School for the Deaf in Austin, Texas, joining her brother Travis who was already attending the school. She graduated in 1958, afterwards attended Lee College in Baytown. She moved to Houston and attended First Baptist Church, where my parents Gertie and Travis attended under the leadership of Lillian Beard. Attending church, along with over a hundred other deaf people was an important social life for her and many of her deaf friends.
Tennie moved to Austin to begin working at the school for the deaf around 1982 as a house parent. She later retired and moved to live at La Vista in San Marcos in 2004, which was a community of deaf people living in an apartment complex. In her later years her nephew, Alan Sessions, managed her care and moved her to a nursing home in Leander, Texas, where she lived for 5 years until her passing.
She is also survived by her sister-in-law, my mom, Gertie Sessions who also attended the Texas School for the Deaf.
I want to thank Sagebrook Nursing and Rehabilitation in Leander for taking care of her for the last 5 years and Hospice for comforting her during her stay at the nursing home.
A graveside service will be held at Atoy Cemetery on Friday, April 24, 2026, at 10:30 a.m.
Services are under the direction of Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home.
