Taking in history
Members of the Cherokee County Commissioners’ Court – from left, Precinct 1 Commissioner Kelly Traylor, Precinct 2 Commissioner Steve Norton, County Judge Chris Davis, Precinct 4 Commissioner Billy McCutcheon and Precinct 3 Commissioner Patrick Reagan – paid a visit to the Heritage Center of Cherokee County, Texas on Feb. 24, familiarizing themselves with the different displays set up there. According to museum curator Betty Marcontell, the museum’s newest exhibit celebrates America's 250th birthday, while other exhibits pay tribute to the county’s fallen heroes, Texas history “and a growing list of ancestors of people from this county who fought in the American Revolution,” she said. The museum is located just off the courthouse square at 208 S. Henderson St. in Rusk, and is open 11-3 Saturday, 1-5 p.m. Sunday or weekdays by appointment – just call Marcontell at 903-714-8685 to arrange a tour.
