Cherokee County: Icy conditions prompts Jan. 26 closures

Area school districts have cancelled classes for Monday, Jan. 26, 2026, citing safety of staff and students as the region is dealing with icy weather conditions. Officials in the districts – Wells, Alto, Rusk, Jacksonville, New Summerfield and Troup – will continue to monitor weather conditions to determine the status of Jan. 27 classes (Tuesday).

Other Monday weather closings were announced by the City of Jacksonville, the City of Rusk, the City of Wells, Jacksonville College, Tyler Junior College and Stephen F. Austin State University (Nacogdoches).

City officials assure residents that essential public safety services will be offered as normal during this time.
