New Year’s Day closings
CHEROKEE COUNTY – Government offices throughout the county will be closed Thursday in observance of New Year’s Day, as will financial institutions and federal offices, such as the US Post Office.
Posting Jan. 1 closures are Cherokee County offices, along with municipal offices in Jacksonville, Troup, Rusk, New Summerfield, Reklaw, Alto and Cuney, as well as The Cherokeean Herald.
The City of Wells’ offices are closed New Year’s Eve (Dec. 31) and New Year’s Day.
Meanwhile, area students will return to their campuses early January.
Districts resuming class on Monday, Jan. 5, include Wells, Alto, New Summerfield and Rusk, while Jacksonville and Troup ISDs return to class the following day, Tuesday, Jan. 6.
Residents in the northern end of Cherokee County should be aware that on Monday, Jan. 5, a temporary traffic signal begins operation at the intersection of U.S. Highway 69 and FM 2493, near the new Bullard Middle School campus. Changes include a lowered speed limit in that area, dropping to 45 MPH. The project is through TxDOT.
A healthy Cherokee County requires great community news.
