A large 15-acre fire was contained on Monday by the Rusk Fire Department, assisted by the Reklaw and Gallatin Volunteer departments and the Texas Forest Service. The fire on FM 768 between Rusk and Gallatin was fed by the high wins and dry grasses and at one time threatened several homes but the swift actions of the fire crews contained the damage. East Texas has had several weeks of dry weather with above average temperatures and the local fire crews have been out fighting every day. Cherokee Herald photo/Penny Hawkins
