Upcoming holiday closings
Numerous entities are reporting holiday closings in upcoming weeks in celebration of Christmas and New Year’s holidays.
School districts will be off beginning Dec. 19, with students reporting back to campus the first week of January 2026. Those with four-day programs – Alto ISD, New Summerfield ISD and Rusk ISD – have the following days off: Dec. 19 through Jan. 2, classes resuming Monday, Jan. 5. Wells ISD, which operates on a five-day plan, also observed this same holiday schedule.
Students in Jacksonville and Troup schools will have an early release on Dec. 19, and are out through Jan. 5. Students return to class on Tuesday, Jan. 6.
Meanwhile, Cherokee County employees will break for Christmas at noon, Tuesday, Dec. 23, returning to office Dec. 29. County employees also will be off New Year’s Day, Jan 1.
Municipalities within Cherokee County have posted the following holiday schedules:
• Jacksonville – offices are closed Dec. 24-25 and Jan. 1
• Troup – offices are closed Dec. 24-26 and Jan. 1-2
• Rusk – offices are closed Dec. 25-26, as well as Jan. 1
• New Summerfield – offices are closed Dec. 24-25 and Jan. 1
• Reklaw – offices are closed Dec. 24-25 and Jan. 1
• Alto – offices are closed Dec. 24-26 and Jan. 1
• Wells – offices are closed Dec. 24-25, Dec. 31 and Jan. 1
• Cuney – offices are closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1
Financial institutions and federal offices and agencies – such as U.S. Post Offices – are closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, as is the Cherokeean Herald office.
