John D. Hulstine Sr.

A funeral service for John D. Hulstine Sr, 86, is scheduled for 10 a.m., Monday, November 17, 2025, at Autry Funeral Home in Jacksonville with Rev. Robert Newton officiating. He will be laid to rest at Still Waters Memorial Gardens. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. 

John was born on April 12, 1939, to Charles Alvin and Letitice Hulstine and went to be with the Lord on November 14, 2025.   

John retired after 41 years with GTE, now known as Verizon, where he faithfully served Cherokee County and the surrounding communities. He proudly served in the National Guard for three years, carrying that same sense of duty into every part of his life. In 1962, he married Sharon, the love of his life, and together they built a loving family. His grandkids were his greatest joy, and time spent with them was always the highlight of his day. He loved being outdoors and especially looked forward to deer season each year. John attended Faith Congregational Church in Rusk and lived his life grounded in faith. 

John was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Trannie Hulstine; and siblings, Art, Jean, Mary, Allen, and Sharon. 

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 63 years, Sharon Hulstine; son, John Hulstine Jr. and wife Dana; brother, Aaron Hulstine and Laura. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Joshua Hulstine and wife Maggie, Jaimi Morgan and husband Chris, Jennifer Chambers and husband Chris; eight great grandchildren; Sharon’s loving family, and numerous nieces and nephews.
