Wilma Jean Glenn
Wilma Jean Glenn, a kindhearted and fun-loving soul, was born on February 6, 1941, in Rusk, Cherokee County, Texas, and passed Oct. 29 2025. A Celebration of Life service will be Wed, Nov. 5, 2025, at the Metropolitan CME Church, 8955 South Freeway, Houston, Texas, 77051 with Rev. Allen Page, III, Senior Pastor officiating.
She received her early education in the public schools of Cherokee County, Texas, before earning both her Baccalaureate and Master’s degrees from Texas Southern University in Houston. For over 30 years, Wilma dedicated her talents to shaping young minds as an elementary school teacher at Jefferson Elementary in the Houston Independent School District.
A woman of deep faith, Wilma was a longtime member of Woodville CME Church in Cherokee County, where she faithfully supported the ministry, later joining Metropolitan CME Church in Houston. She served as a Vacation Bible School worker and scripture reader for the Sunday Worship Service.
Wilma’s greatest joy, however, came from her family. She adored her nephews, great-nephews, great-niece, and great-great-niece, spending countless hours playing games with them. Her playful spirit and gentle heart made her a beloved presence.
She found joy in reading, word search puzzles, collecting mugs, and taking Polaroid photos of her family. Wilma’s life is a beautiful example of love, service, and joy. Her memory will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Ralph (Infant); her parents, Rev. Jasper & Mrs. Lora Glenn; and her sister, Laura V. Glenn Hicks.
She is survived by one sister, Claudia Glenn Bradford; four nephews, Glenn (Pamela), Arin Holliman, Kenneth (Andrea), and Tyler Henderson; and two nieces, Averi and Ava Holliman, as well as several cousins, many friends and acquaintances.
A healthy Cherokee County requires great community news.
