The Wells ISD community is mourning the loss of Morgan Wright – wife of Superintendent Friday Wright – who died following a two-car wreck in Lufkin.
According to a story from KETK, the Sept. 29, 2025, wreck took place following a vehicle pursuit involving the Lufkin Police Department and a stolen Chevrolet truck being driven by a 16-year-old minor from Trinity County, about 1 p.m. Monday.
The truck was reported traveling toward downtown Lufkin, headed along Third Street when it collided with a Ford Explorer at the intersection of Frank Street, according to the report.
The minor was taken to a local hospital and was released after treatment, while Wright, 40, was taken to a hospital for treatment, subsequently passing away.
“This is a great loss for our community,” a WISD staff member said in a social media post that asked for prayers for the Wright family. “Morgan was such a fun, sweet spirit, ready to help in any way.”
Wright was employed as a speech pathologist for Lufkin ISD, according the district’s website.
LPD officials said charges against the teen are pending.
