William (Bill) Witt, Sr
September 26, 2025

William (Bill) Witt, Sr, was born on April 18, 1958, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to John Bernard Witt and Robbie Lou Smith. Throughout his life, Bill lived in many places, meeting people and making connections wherever he went.
In 1985, Bill met Anna, and a lifetime romance was born. Married June 20, 1987, the couple briefly settled in Central Texas before eventually making Rusk their home.
Bill built a long and dedicated career with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, proudly serving for nearly 30 years. He was deeply respected and loved by his colleagues for his hard work, fairness, and steady character. Before his time with TDCJ, Bill worked at Todd's Shipyard, various construction companies, and finally served as a supervisor at Alcoa Aluminum, where he was admired for his leadership and work ethic. Bill liked to claim that he was a "Jack of all trades, but a master of none."
Bill had a rough childhood that was beset with hardship. He was forced to drop out of school prior to the completion of his 8th grade year. When he met the love of his life, he dedicated himself to earning his GED in hopes of providing a better future for his family. An achievement that reflected his determination and commitment to providing for his family. He was a man of many skills — not only a “shade tree” mechanic who could repair cars in the yard but also a talented handyman who could fix almost anything around the house. If something was broken, Bill found a way to make it right.
Known for his quick wit and his ability to light up a room, Bill will be remembered for his kindness, humor, and the warmth he extended to everyone he met. He had the biggest heart and a remarkable gift for making people laugh. More than anything, Bill was devoted to his family, passing down a legacy of hard work, generosity, and love that will continue through them for generations to come.
He is survived by his loving wife, Anna Witt; his children, William Witt Jr. and wife Jessica, John Witt and wife Kasia, Justin Witt, and Katherine (Katie) Witt and fiancé Juan Lopez; and his cherished grandchildren: Madalynn, Mason, and Serina Witt. Also by brothers: Clem, David, and Dale Witt; and sister Brett Marie Witt. He is also remembered by many extended family members, friends, and coworkers who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Robbie Witt, step-mother Delpha Witt, and brother John (Jack) Witt.
Bill’s life was a reminder that true wealth is found not in possessions but in laughter, kindness, and love shared with others. His memory will forever remain a source of comfort and inspiration to those who knew him.
