County adopts $23.7M general fund budget, sets 49-cent tax rate
RUSK – Following brief public hearings on a proposed 2025-26 fiscal year budget and the tax rate that will help fund it, Cherokee County leaders unanimously approved both during roll call votes held during an Aug. 27, 2025, Commissioners’ Court meeting in Rusk.
A $23,749,768 general fund budget was adopted, as was a $0.49 tax rate that has remained unchanged for three years. This rate, assessed per $100 property valuation, will generate an increased amount of funds this year due to assessment increases on existing properties and the addition of new properties to the tax rolls.
Officials will post a copy of the new budget and other related information on the county website, co.cherokee.tx.us. A more detailed story on the topic will follow in an upcoming edition of The Cherokeean Herald.
