Mattie Mae Shepard

Funeral Services for Mrs. Mattie Mae Shepard will be held at Eastside Baptist Church in Rusk, TX on Saturday, August 30, 2025 at 1 PM.  There will also be a public viewing preceding the funeral from 12 PM to 1 PM and a separate viewing at Rosewood Funeral Home in Jacksonville, TX on Friday, August 29th from 2 PM to 6 PM. 

Mrs. Shepard was born on April 22, 1933 in the Atoy Community of Rusk, TX but later came to reside in the Shady Grove Community.  She attended the Woodville Community School and was a member of the Reklaw Church of Christ. 

Mrs. Shepard passed away on August 19, 2025 at her home.  

She is survived by four daughters: Nellean (Darrel) Sturns of Rusk, Ella Williams, Julie Johnson, and Linda Telfair all of Houston; three sons: George (Neva Blanton) Shepard Jr of Henderson, Ronnie (Kindi McDuff) Shepard of Houston, Kendrick Shepard of Rusk; a special grandson, who she raised as her own Derrick (Gia Skinner) Shepard of Rusk; one sister, Helen (Harold) Sheppard of Fairview; three sisters-in-law: Essie Hart of Rusk, McRay Hart and Lois Shepard both of Houston; fourteen grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 7 great great-grandchildren; special lifelong friend Jeanette (Joe) Pinkard of Houston and a host of other relatives and friends.
