Debbie Stapp Daniel

A funeral service for Debbie Stapp Daniel, age 70, of Jacksonville, is scheduled for 10 a.m., Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Autry Funeral Home in Jacksonville with Bro. Steve Slover officiating. She will be laid to rest at Myrtle Springs Cemetery, in Ponta. 

Visitation will be held Friday, August 22, 2025, and family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.

Debbie was born on Friday, October 29, 1954 to Dick Stapp and Margie (Butler) Stapp, and went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 18, 2025. She was raised in Florence, Texas and graduated from Florence High School, and went on to study at Mary Hardin-Baylor College, graduating in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She then taught special education in Beeville, Texas. 

In 1980, Debbie married Joe Daniel, and they made their home in Cherokee County. After their two sons were born, Debbie taught at Rusk Primary and Rusk Jr. High. She also taught many children at First Baptist Church in Rusk, in Sunday School, Children’s Choir and Vacation Bible School. At the time of her death, Debbie was a member of First Baptist Church in Ponta.

Debbie was preceded in death by her parents, Dick and Margie Stapp; and sister, Donna Stapp Curb.

Left to cherish Debbie’s memory are her husband of 45 years, Joe Daniel of Jacksonville; sons, Austin Daniel, and wife, Natalie, of Plano, Joel Daniel, of Chicago, Illinois; sister, Diana Gray, and husband, Lynn, of Goldthwaite, Texas; and grandchildren, Timothy and Lydia Daniel.

Rather than customary condolences, the family requests memorials be made to the Bridges/Penny Endowed Scholarship for education students at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. http://www.umhb.edu/give
