Alfred “Sam” Austin Sumrall

Alfred “Sam” Austin Sumrall, Jr. of Rusk, TX, passed away Thursday, July 24, 2025.  Sam was born June 7, 1952 to Alfred Sumrall, Sr. and Margaret Graham Sumrall in Umatilla County, Pendleton, OR. 
He is preceded in death by his parents and his granddaughter, Crystal Ham. 
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Hickman Sumrall; sisters, Shelley Sumrall and Frances Mann; and children: D. J. Lowe, Jr. and wife Elizabeth, of Woodville, TX, Dennis Lowe, of Houston, TX, Marie Wilkerson and husband Johnny, of Houston, TX, and Peggy Forsythe and husband Bryan, of Trinity, TX.  He also had 8 grandchildren: Justin Brinkley and wife April, Regina Perez and husband Rayes, Morris Ham III, Brandon Ham, Ryan Lowe, Danielle Rollins and  husband Ernie Jr., Nora Bigley and husband Jacob, and Fawnna Wolf and husband Brian.  He also had numerous nieces, nephews, and great grandchildren.  

The Celebration of Life for Sam will be held at the Old Palestine Church in Alto, TX, on September 6, 2025 at 2 pm.  The church is located at 290 County Road 2609. Edwin Finley and Earnest Mayes will officiate the service.
