Hallene Allen Thomson
July 29, 2025

On July 23, 2025, Hallene Allen Thomson, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away peacefully at home at the age of 84. She was the 4th of 5 children born to Sam Thomas and Rosa Louise Allen, on March 10, 1941, in Alto, Texas.
Hallene grew up in Alto, Texas, where she graduated from Alto High School in 1959 and served as Vice President of her class. Shortly after high school she moved to Houston, Texas, to work for Houston Light and Power. While in Houston she met Hulen Glen Thomson and they eloped in June of 1961.
While married, Glen and Hallene lived and worked in Lufkin and Nacogdoches before moving back to Houston in 1970, after Glen graduated from Stephen F. Austin. Five years later, in March 1975, they welcomed their only daughter, Sheri Lea. Hallene was a devoted mother who loved volunteering at school, being a room mom and team mom and an avid fan cheering in the stands of all of Sheri’s sporting events.
Hallene loved to play golf! She played every week with the ladies at Tennwood and later at Houston Oaks Golf Club and Jersey Meadows. She had the honor of being the Club Champion for several years. Through golf, Hallene met some of her best and closest friends.
After retirement in 2003, Glen and Hallene moved back to Alto where they enjoyed the slower pace of East Texas and where they became members of A. Frank Smith Methodist Church. Both were very involved in the church where Hallene sang in the choir and Glen helped with the audio/visual equipment. Hallene loved music and was frequently a soloist on Sunday morning. They also joined Campers for Christ where they would travel to Lake of the Pines and Sam Rayburn to camp, fish, and fellowship.
In 2005 Hallene’s pride and joy, her grandson Adam was born. She absolutely adored him and enjoyed watching him play soccer and football. When Hallene started to experience some health concerns in 2013, Glen and Hallene moved back to Houston to be closer to Sheri, Adam and Bill. Hallene joined the Jersey Village Women’s Group and the Jersey Village Senior’s Group. She enjoyed the many activities including water aerobics, bingo, and the monthly outing to Willie’s Ice House.
While they last few years, have been challenging, Hallene stayed strong in her faith and faced each challenge and obstacle with grace and a strength unmatched by any other. She was compassionate, hard-working, supportive, encouraging and kind. She never met a stranger. She is loved beyond measure and will be deeply missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Mary Lee Cole, sister Rosa Bell Holcomb; and brother Thomas “Buster” Allen.
Left to cherish her memories is her loving husband of 64 years, Hulen Glen Thomson, their daughter Sheri Lea Sheppard and husband Bill Sheppard, grandson Adam Sheppard, brother James Allen, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to A. Frank Smith Methodist Church, P.O. Box 635, Alto TX 75925.
She is gone but never forgotten, leaving loving memories of her smile, laughter, compassion and strength in our hearts forever.
A celebration of life will be held in Houston at Cypress-Fairbanks Funeral Home.
