Judith Duncan Edwards, 82, lovingly known as Judy, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away peacefully after an extended illness on May 24th, 2025, surrounded by her family.
Born in Poteet, Texas, to high school teachers Adon Duncan and Montel Gladney Duncan, she was the Valedictorian of the Rusk High School Class of 1961. She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy in 1966. While at UT Austin, she was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. She married her husband of 58 years, Joe Edwards, in 1966. She and her husband, a dentist, settled in San Antonio in 1972 and remained there for the rest of her life. She loved being a pharmacist and found immense joy and satisfaction in serving her patients. After taking time off to have her two children, she worked at Eckerds and after it was acquired, CVS, for her entire career. She was a practicing pharmacist in Texas up until 2020 and even then, kept up with continuing education to keep her license active. She served as a pharmacy preceptor with CVS and greatly enjoyed being a mentor to many pharmacy students and aspiring pharmacists.
She was a singular personality, known for her distinctive East Texas accent and love of well-coordinated outfits. She enjoyed being in San Antonio and the many friends she made there, especially while being involved in various organizations such as the San Antonio Dental Auxiliary, Daughters of the American Revolution, and First Presbyterian Church, where she worshiped and had served as a Sunday School teacher. She had recently joined the Daughters of the Republic of Texas.
She is survived by her husband, Joe Edwards; her sons in Houston, John Edwards, Jeff Edwards and his wife Liz; grandchildren, Reid and Natalie; in Waco her sister, Jeanne Waggener and her husband Tommy; and in Houston her nephew, Jay Sartain, his wife Katie and their children Jack and Holt.
