Jo was born February 2, 1941 in Alto, Texas to Emry Lee Findley and Imogene McGaughey Findley. She passed away on May 20, 2025 at the age of 84 in Huntsville, Texas surrounded by her children. Jo was a Baptist and a member of Hilltop Baptist Church in Alto but as a girl she attended both the Baptist and Methodist churches.
She is survived by her children, Kim Landrum (David) of Huntsville, Traci Campbell (Sissy) of Austin, and Bryan Campbell (Valerie) of Austin; 3 grandchildren, Kyle Landrum of College Station, Amber Bishop (Doug) of LaGrange, and Ashley Minning (Chris) of Austin; 8 great grandchildren, Gavin, Micah, Coltin, Chase, Addy, Bentley, Bowen, and Andrew; and 1 great grandchild, Charlotte.
Jo is also survived by her brothers Ken Findley (Marilyn) of Seabrook and Larry Findley (Pam) of Jacksonville and many special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was blessed to have a cousin who was like a brother, Dickie McGaughey, a bonus daughter, Paula Low, and a special niece, Teri Findley Eberhardt. Jo, also known as Mama, JoJo, Mama Jo, Am Jo, Aunt Jo and Josie lived most of her life in Alto before moving to Huntsville in 2018 to be closer to her children.
She was raised in the Findley country home in the Cold Springs community and graduated from Alto High School in 1959. While working for Dr. Bob Rossman at the clinic in Alto she expressed an interest in attending nursing school but could not afford the tuition. Dr. Rossman gave her the money to get started and she fulfilled her dream of becoming a Registered Nurse when she graduated from Texas Eastern School of Nursing in 1962. After working several years in the mid 1960’s as the school nurse at Alto Elementary she moved on to her career at Rusk State Hospital in 1967 where she served in many capacities until her retirement in 1992.
Jo loved to dance, play 42, read, crochet, cross stitch, sew, and she had the greenest thumb ever as shown by her beautiful yard and plants. She loved being a Nurse and was called on so many times by family and friends for advice and in emergencies. Jo was the best cook and could “whip up” a great meal in a matter of minutes.
She loved her faithful companions Tip and Jake who watched over her and rode many miles with her in the minivan. If you knew her you knew she loved her children, grandchildren, family, and friends with all of her heart – always supportive and there in an instant if she was needed. She was the best!
