May 02, 2025

April 27, 1951 – April 21, 2025
James “Jim” Lee Summers II, age 73, died in Christ on Monday, April 21, 2025, at Hospice of East Texas in Tyler.
Jim was born on April 27, 1951, in Rusk, Texas, to the late Franklin Lee and Sarah Ann (Mettaeur) Summers. He loved sports, playing both football and baseball, and he graduated from Rusk High School with the Class of 1969. Jim earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from Stephen F. Austin University in 1975 and his bachelor’s in nursing degree from Texas Christian University in 1979.
Wanting to travel the world, Jim joined the United States Air Force and served honorably from 1983 to 1995, where he built a meaningful career and met the love of his life. He continued serving others as a dedicated and skilled operating room nurse (RN) for many years.
On January 19, 1991, Jim married Lynn Ellen (Stumbaugh) Summers, and together they shared thirty-four years of love, laughter, and adventure. Jim was an active member of Bullard Methodist Church in Bullard, Texas, where his faith was both a foundation and a joy. He cherished time with family, enjoyed traveling with his wife, and found great pleasure in golfing.
Jim is survived by his wife, Lynn Summers of Flint, Texas; his daughter, Sarah Summers of Tyler, Texas; and his stepsons, whom he loved as his own, Richard James Elliott III and wife Crystal of Lexington, Ohio, and Larry Elliott and wife Andrea of Midland, Michigan. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Arionna (Elliott) Sturtz and husband Mike, Richard James “RJ” Elliott IV, Benjamin Elliott, Nathan Elliott, and Mabel Elliott; and three great-grandchildren: Briella, Bailey, and Evelynn.
Also surviving are his sisters, Sally Coke of Frisco, Texas, and Suzy Valentine of Austin, Texas; siblings-in-law, Timothy Stumbaugh and Kelly Williams and husband George. He leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and friends who will deeply miss him.
A memorial service will be held August 1st at 1:00 PM at Bullard Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd, Tyler, TX 75701, or to Bullard Mission House & Mission Clinic, 226 S. Phillips St., Bullard, TX 75757.
We take comfort in knowing that Jim now rests in the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Though we grieve, we rejoice in the sure promise of resurrection and reunion.
