BURN ADVISORY

by Staff reports

CHEROKEE COUNTY – Officials have posted a March 18, 2025, burn advisory urging Cherokee County residents to take extreme precaution when burning, due to current high winds that create an increased chance of fire weather.
The notice remains in place until further notice.
“There’s no burn ban in our county, but because of constant fires kicking off in West Texas, we thought it would be a good idea for our community to be mindful whenever burning, and to use common sense when it’s windy,” said Cherokee County Emergency Management Coordinator Sergio Servin.
“Even though it’s green outside, there is still a lot of old, dry vegetation left from the winter – we don't want it to kick off and create an issue” he said. “Do not leave any fire unattended.”
