Markasky named JPD Chief
(JACKSONVILLE, TEXAS) The City is pleased to announce Steven Markasky as Chief of the Jacksonville Police Department (JPD). Markasky, a 12-year veteran of JPD, was named Assistant Chief of Police in April 2024 and had been serving as Acting Chief of Police since January 2025. Effective March 10, 2025, Markasky has been installed as Chief. This announcement follows an exhaustive review of Markasky’s qualifications and leadership. All members of JPD were invited to participate in the selection process and Markasky was required to participate in written and oral interview processes. His assessment included review by a city manager and a police chief from separate outside organizations. “Seeing Steven reach this milestone, will remain a highlight of my career,” said City Manager James Hubbard. “He has proven himself as a dedicated public servant and has demonstrated the power of caring for people and investing in continued training and education; earning this position began more than a decade ago.” A public pinning ceremony, and opportunity to meet Chief Markasky, will be held Thursday, March 20 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Public Safety Complex, 911 S. Bolton St. in Jacksonville. Markasky holds an undergraduate degree in criminal justice administration and is set to complete graduate coursework in criminal justice leadership and management in May 2025. He is a graduate of the Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas’ Leadership Command College and has received numerous accolades including officer of the year (2013) and supervisor of the year (2019, 2020, 2022) in his service with JPD.
