Area schools in session Thursday
Schools in Cherokee County will hold classes Jan. 9 as regularly planned, closely monitoring reports for a need for early release Thursday due to inclement weather, according to officials at districts in Wells, Alto, New Summerfield, Jacksonville, Troup and Rusk.
National Weather Service officials in Shreveport issued a Winter Weather message at 3:33 a.m. Thursday for Cherokee and area counties, noting that a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until noon Friday, Jan. 10.
Residents should expect mixed precipitation, with trace amounts of snow and ice accumulation, ranging up to several hundredths of an inch in portions of north central and northwest Louisiana and northeast Texas.
“Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Thursday morning and evening commutes,” officials warned. “Slow down and use caution while traveling.”
Motorists can find the latest road conditions by calling 5-1-1.
