Funeral services for Berry Joe Kidwell, 94, of Lufkin will be held Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Gene Elrod, Pastor Aaron Wilson, and Pastor Chris Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in the Old Palestine Cemetery in Alto.
Mr. Kidwell was born September 6, 1930 in Winfield, Titus County, Texas to the late Fred Leon Kidwell and Lula Lee (Scoggin) Kidwell Roberts. He departed this life to be with his Lord Thursday, November 28, 2024.
Mr. Kidwell had resided in Lufkin since 1965. He graduated from Alto High School in 1948 and Stephen F. Austin State College, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree. Berry was employed with the United States Postal Service and retired with 38 years of service. He was employed with LabCorp of America for 26 years. Mr. Kidwell joined the United States Navy in 1948 and served during the Korean Conflict. He served aboard the USS Keppler DDE 765 for four years. Berry was honorably discharged as a Boatswains Mate 3rd Class. He served seven years in the USS Naval Reserve.
On November 27, 1951 Berry married the love of his life, Muriel Doris Corley Kidwell. Berry devoted his life to his darling wife and her every need, and to his family. He was a member of Keltys First Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon. He was a member of the Terrell Masonic Lodge #83 A.F. & A.M. in Alto. Berry was an avid woodworker.
Survivors include his son, Robert Keith Kidwell and wife Sandra Lynn of Lufkin; grandson, Ryan Lee Kidwell of Lufkin; and numerous other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Muriel Doris Corley Kidwell in 2018; father, Fred Kidwell and wife Cleo Kidwell; and mother, Lula Lee Scoggin Roberts and husband William Hendry Roberts.
Pallbearers will be Troy Kidwell, Jerry Stout, Ryan Kidwell, Jimmy Nunn, Terry Trevathan, and Ronnie Stanbury.
