Green Card veteran hopes to make a difference for vets facing immigration issues

Sweet freedom For Julio Torres, co-founder of Prodigal’s Home Discipleship Center in Cherokee County, Independence Day has taken on a deeper meaning: The military veteran is back home after begin detained following a trip to Mexico to visit family in late June, 2024. Torres, who has resided in the country since age 5, made the visit only after ensuring his documents showing he resides here legally were up to date. He spent a week in an immigration facility while officials discerned his status. Torres was released in time to spend the July Fourth holiday with family. Courtesy photo
