Super Tuesday Primaries – Cherokee County 2024 results

RUSK – Results of local contested races in the March 5, 2024, Republican Primary – the only one with candidates that filed for office – favored incumbent candidates, while on the national level, a former US president has captured the vote of residents here, according to complete but unofficial election results posted by the Cherokee County Election Department at 9:34 p.m. Tuesday.

All 25 of the county’s 25 election precincts were reporting, with 23.28% (7,266) of the county’s registered voters casting ballots during this election, election officials reported.

On the local level, incumbent Precinct 1 Kelly Traylor secured 66.16%$ of the vote, with challenger Scotty Benge receiving 33.85% (1,075 to 550 votes) with Kelly’s name appearing on the Novemberer ballot.

Incumbent US Representative Jake Ellzey, in a three-way race to represent District 6, took the top amount of votes. Ellzey received 3,374 (57.13%), while challengers James Buford secured 1,396 (23.64%) and Cliff Wiley, 1,136 (19.23%).

Former president Donald Trump more than 10 times the vote than the next top vote-getter: Cherokee County voters placed him on the November ballot by casting 5,686 (86.94%) of the 6,450 votes in his favor. Candidate Nikki Haley received 638 (9.76%); Ron DeSantis, 54 votes (0.83%); Chris Christi, 18 (0.28%); Vivek Ramaswamy, 14 (0.21%); Asa Hutchinson, 5 (0.08%); David Stuckenberg, 2 votes (0.03%) and Ryan L. Binkley, 1 vote (0.02%). A block of 122 ballots (1.87%) were uncommitted to any candidate, according to results.
