Ruth Mayes Dale
Ruth Mayes Dale, 84, passed away in her home on January 11, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and kindness. The only child of Meredith Joseph and Bea Mayes, outstanding civic and business leaders of Rusk, Texas, Ruth was a dedicated high school English teacher at Second Baptist School in Houston for over 25 years. She was always very attentive to her family, was very active and supporting of Rusk, and was a distinguished Director of Citizens 1st Bank.
A true Texan, Ruth excelled academically and was the valedictorian of her high school class. She earned her bachelor’s degree at the University of Mary Hardin Baylor in Belton, Texas. After graduation, Ruth moved to the Houston area where she lived for over 50 years. In 2019, she embraced a new chapter in Ashburn, Virginia, quickly making friends in her community, showcasing the genuine and sweet nature that defined her.
Ruth, a loving and supportive mother, is survived by her two children, Richard Nolen Dale II (wife Jennifer) of Aubrey, Texas and Teri Dale Dungan (husband Tom) of Great Falls Virginias, as well as five cherished grandchildren: Thomas Dungan (wife Leigh) of New York, New York, Matthew, Dungan of Nashville, Tennessee, Megan Dungan of Great Falls, Virginia, Sarah Dale and Rebekah Dale of Aubrey, Texas.
Ruth’s impact extended beyond her family, as she was beloved by her students for both her passion for literature and her unwavering support of the yearbook staff. Apart from her dedication to education, Ruth had a keen eye for antiques and was an avid collector. Ruth Mayes Dale will be remembered not only for her professional achievements but also for the love and joy she brought to those around her. May her gentle spirit and enduring legacy continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
