Peggy Sue was born in the small town of Helmic, TX, & grew up in a family of 5 children. After her mother's passing when Peggy was 3 years old, she was raised by her siblings; they were parental figures & her best friends. She grew up a member of Scrub Creek Church & attending Centerville School. The family reunions & functions kept her connected to her roots & grounded in family ties through all her years.
Peggy married her childhood sweetheart, Corby Ben Best, at the age of 17. She has said she fell in love with him the first time she saw him walk into the school. They had 2 children & spent many years traveling across the US for camping & fishing with family, instilling a love for the great outdoors in her children that will last generations. She was always ready to fish, carrying her fishing pole & tackle wherever she went.
She bought land & settled in Rusk, TX, nestled among the pines. Close to her sisters, there were many hours spent playing card and dominos & front-porch sittin'. There was always coffee brewing & laughter in the air. She enjoyed tending her many flowering plants & watching the hummingbirds & butterflies, while spending hours on the phone with family.
Peggy Sue was Lady Luck herself. Between Bingo & playing the slot machines, she always won big. One of her favorite past times was going on adventures with her niece and best friend, Brinda Lloyd. From casinos to cruises, & until the very end, they painted the town red with road-tripping & winning!
She was a past member of Eastern Star Chapter # 1080 & a current member of the Sardis Baptist Church.
