Forrest Scott Arnwine
After a nearly 20-year, hard-fought battle with multiple forms of cancer, Scott Arnwine went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, July 7, 2023. His death brought the end to his pain and suffering and lets his family and friends rejoice in the knowledge that he has been made whole again through the life everlasting.
He was born the only child of Forrest and Olene Arnwine on October 5, 1945 in Alice, Texas. Though a bit mischievous at times in his youth, he was a respectful and loving son to his parents. Scott grew to become a good man; a good provider, a good father, a good husband, a good friend and more importantly a good son of God.
He wasn’t perfect but was the first to admit it. He was usually right, even when he was wrong and if you knew him at all, you knew he had very outspoken opinions about most everything under the sun. Despite his shortcomings, he gave his all and his very best to his every endeavor. He never turned his back on a person in need, always helping others when he could. Scotty could be a grouchy, cantankerous old fart but down deep, he took everything to heart. He loved, prayed over and cared deeply for far many more people than he ever let on. He will be loved and missed by all who knew him.
In his work, he loved operating heavy equipment, retiring in 2001 from a 34-year career as a crane operator and rigger at Celanese Chemical Plant in Bishop, Texas. He had a true servant’s heart and was compelled to help people. To that end, he dedicated 21 years of his life to helping his community through the Bishop Volunteer Fire Department, serving 13 years as Fire Chief.
His personal passion in life was his love for music and deeply enjoyed singing and playing his guitar with family and friends. In his retirement, he reconnected with old friends and bandmates from his high school days and treasured those nights “pickin with the guys”. He lived a long and fruitful life on his own terms and loved with his whole heart. His only regret at the end was that he could no longer physically be the man he wanted to be for the people he loved the most.
He is survived by his current wife of 10 years, Patricia Gail Ross-Arnwine and her three children: Paula-Ann Russell, Elizabeth Ross, and Johnathan Ross. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 45 years, Sherry (Morgan) Arnwine and is survived by their three children: Carlene Leal (Ray), Lea Anne Lemon (Tim), and William Arnwine (Tammi); nine grandchildren who simply knew him as “Poppy”; Lindsay Shelton (Johnathan), Ashley Hibbitts (Kolby), Kaycie Bridges, Scotty Gomez (Nichol), Kirsten Brown (Troy), Cody Gomez (Victoria), Kaylie Arnwine, Emily Arnwine, Caison Arnwine; and 8 great-grandchildren.
Friends and family will gather to celebrate his life on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at the First Methodist Church in Rusk, Texas at 11:00 AM; all are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, his family has requested that memorial donations be made and sent to the church in his name. May he forever rest in peace.
