Martha C. Birdwell

Martha C. Birdwell, 94, passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at Christus Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Jacksonville, TX. A Graveside Service will be at Russell Cemetery, Monday, January 2, 2023, at 10:00 AM with Pastor Kevin Gentry officiating.

Martha was born in Rusk, TX. on August 9, 1928, to John and Debra (Burns) Beasley. She was raised in Rusk. Later she was married to Milton Singletary from Alto, TX and raised three children as a military wife. She was a licensed vocation nurse and worked in several local nursing homes, later retiring from the Rusk State Hospital. Martha enjoyed knitting, quilting, crochet, and working in her flower garden. She was a long term member of the Church of Christ and later in life attended the Methodist church in Cushing, TX.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sheila Wallace and son-in law Bill Wallace; son Mickey Singletary, and several sisters and a brother.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Lanette and Wayne Cox; granddaughters, Megan Barnett, Christy Sterwart, Shawna and Michael Pippin, Laurie and Gene Beamon, Andrea Cowan, Rebecca Singletary; daughter-in-law, Barbara Singletary; grandsons, Gail and Leah Wallace, Jeremy Singletary; 20 great-grandchildren,

12 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to the American Breast Cancer Society.
