Quince años/15 years

Jesus Vargas, general manager of the McDonald’s restaurant in Rusk, was greeted with a surprise party Jan. 19 in honor of his 15-year anniversary with the company.

“What a ride!” said store owner Lynann Young. “Fifteen years today – congratulations!”

Speaking in Spanish, then translating his remarks to English, Vargas acknowledged his team for his success and longevity. “Fifteen years is a long ride, but it’s very hard to be in a position where I am today without all of you guys. It takes every bit of effort from you in order for me to be where I am at today, so I want to say thank you: We are celebrating this big accomplishment for me, but also, we are celebrating because of you.”

At age 17, Vargas began working as a part-time employee at the Jacksonville store while attending New Summerfield High School. What started as an after-school job blossomed into a career as he rose through the ranks, becoming a valued friend and worker, said Young, who presented him with a certificate and cake.

Vargas and his family – wife Ruby and sons Alan (10) and Axel (3 months) reside in Jacksonville.
