Marilyn Kay Dover Covington

Marilyn Kay Dover Covington, 73, of Rusk, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Hospice of East Texas on December 25, 2021. Kay, as she preferred to be called, was born on December 14, 1948, in Jacksonville, TX, to Feldon and Merle Dover.

Kay’s greatest joys in life were spending time with her family and friends. She loved to craft, quilt, crochet, make greeting cards, work crossword puzzles, crypto quotes, puzzles, play cards, and watch any ghost show that came on tv. She loved to collect angels. She was a lifelong Elvis fan and a die-hard Houston Rockets fan.

Kay worked for the State of Texas and retired with 33.5 years of service in 2003, to help care for her parents. She was also obtained her GED, after marrying and having three young children, and received her Certified Nursing Assistant Certification.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Feldon and Merle Dover, sister Donna Jeanne Martinez, and adopted grandson, James Gabriel Terry.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: son, William George (Billy) Covington and wife Karen of Rusk; daughter, Doris Deanna Lindsey and husband Macon (Beaver) of Rusk, and Sharon Kay Covington of Rusk. Grannie, as she was called by her grandchildren, is survived by nine grandchildren, Karrie Hayes and husband Mark of Rusk, Steven Yates and wife Jayanna of Jacksonville, Colton Covington and wife Katie of Gallatin, Jr Lindsey of Rusk, Billie Lynn Davis and husband Eric of Trinity, JT Lindsey of Rusk, Cody Covington of Rusk, Matthew Lindsey and wife Amanda of Rusk, and Jordan Curtis of Jacksonville. Grannie also leaves behind fourteen great-grandchildren, Braleigh Goff, of Rusk, Lyla Lindsey of Rusk, Kynlee Lindsey of Rusk, Callie Covington of Gallatin, Tripp Lindsey of Rusk, Brilee Yates of Jacksonville, Cullen Yates of Jacksonville, Klayton Lindsey of Rusk, Cole Covington of Gallatin, Clara Davis of Trinity, Emma Davis of Trinity, Jaxson Hayes of Rusk, Bonnie Lindsey of Rusk, and Annalynn Lindsey of Rusk. Kay is also survived by her sisters, Dorothy Marie Spurgers of Leander, Rena Joy Hale of Bonha; and brother Michael Anthony Dover and wife A'Leta of Plano. She also leaves behind her longtime best friend, Debra Selman Terry and adopted daughter, Amanda Terry Waldron. She leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins, whom she loved dearly. Kay also leaves behind her beloved puppy Sugars and cat Ms. Kitty.

Per her wishes, there will be no public service. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
