Mount Enterprise man killed in FM 2138 wreck

CHEROKEE COUNTY – A Mount Enterprise man was pronounced dead at the scene following a late-night accident Wednesday on FM 2138, according to DPS officials.

Troopers responded to a fatal crash on FM 2138 at 8:40 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29, approximately 10 miles west of Rusk, said DPS Sgt. Jean Dark, Tyler District media & communications officer.

A preliminary report states that Dakota Butler, 29, was traveling south along FM 2138 in a 2006 Chevro-let Silverado when the vehicle entered in a left-hand curve, then left the roadway, entering a side skid and striking a tree on its passenger side.
The vehicle subsequently caught fire and burned. Butler was pronounced at the scene by Cherokee Coun-ty Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Judge Tony Johnson and was taken to Autry Funeral Home in Jackson-ville, the report stated.
The crash remains under investigation.
