Fern Elliott

Graveside services for Fern Grogan Elliott, 91, of Rusk, will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 4, 2021 at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home with Rev. David O’Neal officiating. Mrs. Elliott left her earthly home and entered her heavenly home on May 18, 2021. She was born May 23, 1929 in Rusk.

She lived in Alto in her younger years and attended and graduated Alto High School in 1943.

Fern enjoyed reading and working on her Grogan genealogy. She was also an award winning artist painting with oils for many years. She would take a picture of a scene from other states and/or countries and paint once she returned home.

After she and Morris retired they traveled European countries and almost every state of the United States. They spent several summers in Nova Scotia working as caregivers for parks. They also did this in several states in the US.

Mrs. Elliott worked many years as a medical secretary. Her last employment was at Rusk State Hospital for Dr. James Hunter in the prison unit.

Fern was predeceased by her parents Viron L. Grogan and Eula Jones Grogan; husband, Morris Elliott; son Doyle Clifton and son-in-law George Dover.

She is survived by daughter Margaret Clifton Dover of Maydelle; daughter-in-law Cindy Clifton of Henderson; grandchildren Tracy Vargas (Arnoldo) of Nacogdoches, Todd Clifton (Kim) of Henderson, Toby Clifton (Ashley) of Whitehouse, Mary “Tori” Victoria Warner (Trace) of Lubbock; as well as seven great- grandchildren, with one on the way.

She is also survived by her sister Barbara Spears; and niece Melinda Spears Rogers (Truitt) of Aledo, Texas; nephew Jay Spears; one great nephew and one great niece; numerous cousins and friends. Also survived by her loving pet cat Sweet Willa.
