The gift of food

November 25, 2020

Looking for a gift that keeps on giving, that is chock full of Cherokee County history? Look no further than the Lonestar Lickskillet cookbook series by local authors Lurlene Bowden (left) and Shelley Cleaver. Bowden said the books – which trace the history of Cleaver's ancestors and their role in the history of the developing country – are best-sellers and are now in reprint through her publishing company, Spirit, Soul and Shadow, of Rusk. A reprint of Lonestar Lickskillet was released in mid-October, with the other two volumes soon to follow. Cost is $25 each, and can be purchased by contacting lurlenejbowden@gmail.com, or via Facebook, at "Heating Up History." Photo by Jo Anne Embleton
