From left, Rusk Cares-Good Samaritan Board member La’Retta Britton, Brookshire Brothers-Rusk Store Director Ben Lusten, Good Samaritan Food Coordinator Murray Smith and Good Samaritan President Mona Burford show off the $2,260 in donations collected from Rusk shoppers from May through August. Brookshire Bros. launched the ‘Together We Can Do More’ initiative to raise money to provide food to those who’ve lost jobs, income and their health due to COVID-19. The grocery store chain also matched every customer donation collected, dollar for dollar. “Food Insecurity across Texas has been amplified this summer due to the pandemic,” Brookshire Bros. Director of Marketing and PR Sally Alvis said. “With the gift cards our stores are providing, with the help of our customers, local organizations can respond to those immediate needs.” Other local entities that receive donations through Brookshire Bros.’ program include the Wells Interfaith Pantry in Wells and the Alto Food Pantry in Alto.
