On Thursday, Aug. 20, the Alto Yellowjackets took on the Shelbyville Dragons in a scrimmage at Cam’Ron Matthews Field marking the start of Cherokee County’s 2020 high school football season. Yellowjacket Head Coach Ricky Meeks, who is going into his third year as head coach, says the kids have been working hard and are excited to get the season underway. Alto, who only has four returning starters this year (two on offense and two on defense), looked good on the gridiron. Coach Meeks said they are a young team but ready to take on the Troup Tigers during their home opener, 7:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 28, in Alto. The Yellowjackets start the season ranked #12 in Division 2A-1.
