As cases of Cornonavirus (COVID-19) continue to rise across the state of Texas, stricter steps have been put into place to help contain the spread.

On Thursday, March 19, Texas Governor Greg Abbott released an executive order to temporarily close gyms, bars and restaurant dining areas. The order also limits social gatherings to no more than 10 and restricts visits to nursing homes and retirement facilities. The order became effective on Saturday morning and will remain in place until Friday, April 3.

“All jurisdictions must work to contain the spread o COVID-19 for at least the next two weeks,” Abbott said during his televised statement on Thursday. “We are doing this now, today, so we can bet back to business as usual more quickly.”

Abbott also went on to release an order that will allow restaurants to deliver alcoholic beverages and waived previous TABC regulations that would have hindered that.

“Restaurants in Texas can now deliver alcoholic beverages with food purchases to customers,” Abbott wrote on his official Twitter account. “In response to #coronavirus I waived some regulations that hindered that. These next few weeks it’s important to support our restaurants. They’re a great source of food for Texans.”
