Bullard powerlifting season begins

The Bullard Panthers and Lady Panthers powerlifting members opened their season at Fairfield Thursday, Jan. 16.

The Lady Panthers placed fifth with 17 points behind Fairfield (63), Blooming Grove (35), Mala-koff (26) and Mabank (19).

Two women earned top spots at the initial outing. Maria Vences took first in the 181-weight class. Her lifts of 330 in the squat, a 225-bench press and a 270-pound dead lift gave her a total weight of 825 pounds. She was named Outstanding Female Lifter.

Leighann Langston, participating in the 259-weight class, also earned a first-place finish. Her total weight of 995 pounds included a squat of 365 pounds, a 275-bench press and a 355-pound dead lift.

Earning third in the 105-class was Cameron Ortiz. Her lifts (85, 45, 130) totaled 260 pounds. Placing in the 148-class were Kyleigh Thornhill, seventh, 555 pounds total weight; and Grace O’Bannon, 10th, 535 pounds total.

With 10 points, the Panthers finished in sixth place, with Blooming Grove (45), Fairfield (36) and Mabank (28) taking the top spots.

Ezra Roy secured second place in the 198-weight class. His lifts (400, 185, 405) equaled 990 pounds. Caiden Lee earned a third-place finish in the 123-class with a total weight of 580 pounds. Fifth place went to two athletes; Dylan Lassiter, 165-class, 1010 pounds; and Gage Chatman, 220-class, 940-pound total.
Other participants included Blake Morse, 275-class, sixth, 1,175 pounds; Kandon Wilson, 148-class, eighth, 710; Chandler Davenport, 165-class, eighth, 810; and Drew Hull, 165-class, 11th, 755.

The Bullard powerlifting athletes are coached by Colt Bradford, Robby May and Adam Varnado.

The next powerlifting meet for the Panthers and Lady Panthers will be at Malakoff on Thursday, Jan. 23.
