State softball 15U tournament kicks off in Rusk
Team members of the Corsicana Lady Texas Rangers and the Lovelady Lion Drive conclude their match up during the 15U softball tournament going on this week at the Rusk Lion’s Baseball/Softball complex. The Lion Drive beat the Lady Rangers Monday morning, 16-0.
Girls 15U Division softball state tournament play kicked off in Rusk on Monday morning with a total of 16 teams competing to reach the final game scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday, July 13.
Two teams from Rusk, Velocity and Threat, are among the teams vying for a spot in the final game.
Threat started off tournament play strong with a 13-5 victory over Moody United. Their second game was Tuesday at 4 p.m. against the Belton Aggies who had a first round victory over Comanche Pride.
The winning team from this match will play against the winners from the Mildred and Edgweood Thunder Chickens game which was also played at 4 p.m. on Tuesday with the losing team facing off against the winner of the Crocket Crossfire and Corsicana Lady Texas Rangers game.
Velocity suffered a 22-4 loss during round one play to the Edgewood. Edgewood, a tournament play team, is predicted to win the state tournament.
Velocity played Troup Thunder during a round two game on Tuesday morning that ended with a Troup victory knocking Velocity out of the tournament.
To run down game play from day one, Mildred claimed the win over Troup Thunder and advanced to play Edgewood on Tuesday afternoon; Bruceville-Eddy Warriors beat Crockett Crossfire and will play against Lovelady Lion Drive, who had a 16-0 victory over the Corsicana Lady Texas Rangers.
Monday evening games were called due to inclement weather and Axtell Belk, Quitman Killer Kleatz, Clifton Gaona and Alba Uproar played Tuesday morning with Clifton and Axtell taking home the win.
Additional game play on Tuesday included match ups between Comanche Pride vs Moody United and Crocket Crossfire vs Corsicana Lady Texas Rangers.
Moody won their game against the Comanches, but final scores for Crocket and Corsicana were not availbe when this issue when to press. Games are held at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. each day during the week long tournament.
