Jacksonville suspect remains at large following police stand-off
JACKSONVILLE — An armed suspect is at large after an hours-long standoff in a Jacksonville apartment complex.
Jacksonville PD responded to a scene at Sweet Union Apartments on Hwy 69 North in Jacksonville around 4:42 p.m. A suspect, now known as 20-year-old Roy Patrick Hamilton Jr., allegedly assaulted a woman while armed.
The woman was able to leave the apartment, while Hamilton barricaded himself in the apartment while still armed. Residents were evacuated from their homes while Jacksonville Police attempted to make contact with him.
As of 9:45 p.m., Jacksonville Police Chief Steven Markasky said the standoff was terminated, with Hamilton remaining at large. He is considered armed and dangerous at this time.
According to Markasky, numerous people on scene indicated Hamilton was in the upstairs apartment prior to police arrival. A perimeter was set shortly after. Chief Markasky said they are currently following up on leads of Hamilton’s whereabouts.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts are encouraged not to approach him, and to contact Jacksonville Police by calling 903-586-2546.
